Future home

As I meet people and go through life, I wonder how they got to where they are. Then I can't help but wonder how to get myself to where I want to be.
When I think of an "adult" I think of a mom and a dad. In my head, that is adulthood.  As a mom, you have kids. And THAT is terrefying.

As I study recreation, I see how much it helps in development. It is the basis for creativity, for a family, for well-being, and for sucess. Yeah. Crazy huh?

So imagine I am married ( JUST imagine...) and I have kids ( Again, just imagine) I would be living in Montana on a small plot of land far from everybody ( duh, its Montana) with a couple of kids ( 5-12). The first will be twin boys.. then a girl, then just a party.
I don't want my kids to be living in the wilderness and rely on electronics for entertainment. I want them to have simple toys, and instruments, and books as their friends. I wish for us to only have 1 tv, and that be in the livingroom. OR maybe a projector. With set amounts of time to watch it.

I want their recreation to be wholesome and their play to be imaginative. Their play will be un structured, free, and developmental.  I can already see them in the summer playing in the puddles, swimming in the lake, making mud pies. Then their dad would come home and they would have lessons for some instrument they play. We will speak at least 3 languages fluently in our home, all of us. There will be a room just for reading, and books all over the house. There will be  a room just for playing their instruments, somewhere they can be to be alone. Another room for crafts with the walls lined with colors, paints, fabrics, canvases, beads, threads, etc. There will be simple things for them to play with such as pool noodles, pom poms, spoons, pots and pans, MUD ( my favorite after sticks), yarn of all colors, construction paper, crayons, beads, wooden blocks, bubbles, finger paints, glue, noodles, scissors, all sorts of goey things. etc.

My family will be well rounded, with creativity encouraged, free play when they wake up.

I know i'm still young and know nothing about parenting, and things will be different. But this is how I want it.

I still don't have a husband, much less kids, but I already love them.

Hike on snake River.

This was not on my bucket list, but its something I do not want to forget.

I was walking in the hallway of my apts and this guy was walking around. I got excited because this guy was not like the others and quickly pointed out that he was brown. He replied stating that he was from central America and that caught my attention.  I then proceeded to let him in to my house and he played his violin for me. blah blah blah. he came over the Tuesday after. He made amazing food and while I ate, he played for me. IT WAS INCREDIBLE! Boy can PLAY! it felt like something off of a movie and it was just breathtaking. Anyways, one thing lead to another and Saturday we went on a little hike. I had imagined it being short and boring... but it was the oposite! We climbed some rocks, ate lunch in a very small cave then hiked UP some crazy hills. We then chased some cows around and climbed some more rocks followed by some awesome cricket chasing. After him plucking many cactus out of me, I started doing it myself. I felt like a grown up! lol. We then were headed back to the car and got lost. we ended up finding many carcases and got scared, ran out and headed off in to the car. It wasn't something necesarily that people don't experience, but it was most definately something that not everybody can say they did?

Fall 2013 update.

I find it funny that I am required to make a bucket list for a class.. if only they knew. :)

I'm glad I have this assignment because I would have not checked my progess, and would not be reminded of how awesome I am. Humility, a strength. I know. :P

I am currently undergoing some changes, and new goals will be posted soon. :)

Summer 2013 Check-in.

WOW!  I find that I veered from the path I had envisioned for myself this summer.
  Goals:
1. Read a novel in french and understand it!!
I took 5+ years of french and I LOVE the language. I have since disregarded it for the most part and I have decided hat enough is enough! I will read a book and get back in to my french speaking days.

2. Understand and apply PURE LEISURE in my life!!
I study Recreation and Leisure and I have seen where I lack these traits severe-ly in my life. I have studied my roommate's leisure habits and found that she has a lot of satisfaction from the small things. I will go back to enjoying these small things and LOVE everything that comes my way. I  plan on studying children's recreation patterns and see where I have changed and stopped getting this satisfaction. I will spend less time on the bottom of Nash's Pyramid and more time on level 3-5 ( 5 is based off of the Ancient Greek belief that in helping others one is helping themselves.. so in other words.. MORE SERVICE)

3. Cross 3 things off my buket list ( life long)

4. At the end of every day I will write down a good leisure thing I  did during the day as well as tender mercies.

5. I will spend more time outside. My color will be a nice golden sun kissed shade.

6. I will Make memories that will last a life time and make Summer 2013 MEMORABLE

7. I Will go to one home coming this summer.

8. I Will find a minimum of two ancestors.

9. I will read a historical novel on a country in Central or South America.

10. I will meet a Colombian a week OR sit and listen to someone's life story a week. I will learn to LOVE people.

1I got part way through my french novel before I forgot about it.
2I did study pure leisure, didn't apply it as well as I wish I would have.. it was definately there and I was practicing it.
3. With the help of my two best friends, I had a small garden. There were a couple of mistakes, and it wasn't as fruitful as I would have wished, but I got a couple of herbs out of it before the heat killed it.
4. I was not consistent with writting leisure and tender mercies.
5. I DID spend more time outside. I rarely got in a car, and my main mode of transportation was a bicycle. my shade wasn't the one I wished for, but it was better than before!
6. DEFINATELY did this! The whole making a garden thing was AWESOME! Not only because I grew a couple of things, but I DID immerse myself in it completely, but because that meant spending more time with my best friends. I had the WONDERFUL opportunity to know what being a parent was like. I nannied a 2 yr old and a baby less than 6 months old. It was crazy awesome. Some days were better than others, but I got to learn more about love and what it is that I have to look forward to.  I got my mission call and will be spending the next 18 months serving a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints in Sonora, Chihuahua!!!  My best friends met with the missionaries multiple times.  Leilani and I rode our bikes to the swimming pool in our bathing suites. LEGIT!  I did NOT end up in the ER. My two monkeys and I went out and did crazy things together all of the time. We got closer and further.
7.  Nope. :(
8. YES! I found like 8! all sibblings!!! I also taught my mom how to do Family History.
9. I didn't read any historical novels or biographies. :( It was more fiction and council.
10. I Didn't meet many Colombians but I did meet tons of new people. my favorite was this Lady on the bus I sat next to every day. She had a simmilar job as I did, got paid about the same and did more work than me. Yep. I felt blessed! I could sleep at work if I wanted to. If I wanted to leave, I could etc.

Even though I did not acomplish all of  my goals, I had a fun summer. Memorable indeed.

I'm a gypsy. Are you coming with me?

This HAS to be my FAVORITE thing about the summer so far.  I went to Driggs,IDaho and from there I noticed that the mountains were in Wyoming. We went on a quick trip to Wyoming and then I went to Rexburg. I spent the night in Rexburg,Idaho then in the morning headed off to Utah. HOW AWESOME IS THAT!?!?!? Upon leaving utah, Ibeing the best s returned to Idaho and stayed with some friends. That brought the number of couches I have slept on to 4 different couches... in ONE week!!! I just feel ridicuously blessed to have so many fun adventures and know people willing to let me sleep on their couch. How many more couches till I get to go back to my bed? We will see. So far, Couchi surfing is my life. It is ridiculoulsy fun. This summer is most DEFINATELY the best summer so far! GO ME!

Not your ordinary DQ Blizard

The taste of Flavor ( Driggs,Idaho)

Once again I Was traveling causing havoc in south eastern Idaho when I had this little adventure.

We were driving through a small town and we found this cute little shop. It had " CREAMERY " written on it and I saw the sign on the front door said " OPEN" in bright neon lettering. This was all it took to lure me in. It had been years since I last had been to a creamery , and almost a year since I had ice cream from a good creamery ( Brenham, Texas).

We walk in and the first thing I notice is a hand written note out by the front entrance that said " If I Don't come out, I am in the back making cheese. Yell and I will be out" or something along those lines. I came in looking for good Icecream and got cheese as well!! IT had been a long time since I had some good fresh made cheese with FLAVOR!!! Last time I had cheese where I could see the face of the person who slaved over it for hours was in Villahumada,Chihuahua, Mexico!!!

Anyways, the attendant came out and we started conversing. She told us stories awe bout the cheese, how its made, where the milk comes from, how the place got started and a little bit about herself.. all over some gooood ol' cheese. Turns out she has a REAL PASSION for cheese and she really did know what she was talking about.

Anywho...  we tried the Yellowstone, haystack, saphireblue, and the coking cheese. I walked out with my icecream and a treat.. TWO kinds of cheese!!

The Icecream
You may be wondering how I can write about some icecream.. well its AMAZING!
First off, you need three things to have good Ice cream. 1. Good Ingredients 2. Teqniche 3. the perfect setting

Ingredients -( http://tetonvalleycreamery.com/index.php?page=milk) The milk comes from a place less than four miles away. The cows aren't given hormones or antibiotics and the milk is delivered fresh every morning.
The fruits in the icecream isn't muted with artificial colors or flavors. When you see the strawbery Icecream you may get a little concearned because the color is different from the bright pink you are acustomed to seeing. It is a subtle creamy rich pink. The huckleberries are hand picked in the surrounding area during huckleberry season... etc.
2. Technique.. I don't actually know what the teqnique is.. but you can definately taste a big difference in the icecream from the store bought/ icecream parlor stuff. It is a rich flavor that you can feel.

3. The perfect setting. The temperature needs to be just right and  the setting needs to be amazing.
Well, the temperature was at the point where Winter had been around for long enough for a tiny bit of sun and temps around the 40's to make it feel like summer. The snow was melting. The sun was out. The bright colors and short sleeved shirts were out. It didn't help that the gorgeous rustic Driggs, Idaho was adorned by an amazing sunset, visible from the windows of the shop.

It was an incredible life changing experience. I never imagined that somehting like that existed anymore. I lost my faith at some point roaming the streets of Downtown Houston years ago.

I LOVE IT!  I am forever enamoured with a taste, a scene, an idea, a tradition carried by a family for years.

When I think about Driggs' history, I imagine this may have started in Western Europe or pick up along the way by the original settlers sent out by the Mormon pioneers. Maybe the idea came from a gypsy or a settler that came on their own.
What ever it was, I LOVE IT.
It was a simple experience that I will NEVER forget.

This part of America is being lost. I am ecstatic to have been one of the people to experience it, even for only a few minutes.

Fall in love

Ok. I may have puked a bit in my mouth when I typed that.

But... its the sad reality.  I am in love with an amazing guy.. completely the opposite of what I had always dreamed of falling in love with. '
I had always dreamed of falling in love with a guy who had brown sunkissed skin from working outside so much. He would have amazing skills like wood working, gutting. an amazing hunter and a great cook in consequence. He would do things spur of the moment and would love the outdoors and nature more than anything. He would have a nice sized piece of land on the coast where he dreamed of raising cattle and a dozen kids. He would know how to train animals and have his dog be his best friend. This man would bea lover of the country and just absolutely love the outdoors. He wuld go insane f he had to go to the city, but he would be a fun social, neighbor loving guy. He would be known and loved by everybody. He would be the right balance between outgoing and quiet. He would be crazy hard working. ... and I fel in love with somebody not like that.

This man is gospel loving, quiet, reserved. He knows his way around the outdoors but doesn't show off his skills much. He loves his neighbors and would do anything for their well being.  He is like a book that you have to read and ponder to figure out. He is a mystery. He is a skinny processed food lover. his skin is a pale white color that gets red really easily. His eyes speak the words he cannot say. He doesn't own tons of land or know about cattle.. but he is willing to learn. He loves learning and teaching and spending time with those he cares about. He knows the basic man skills like changing the oil from a car, and other house things. He is incredibly patient and open minded. He has goals and does the impossible to reach them. He has proiorities and doesn't change anything for them. He enjoys learning and has his limits he is willing to cross for those he loves. His daily goal is to make me smile.

He is better than the guy I had always dreamnt of. He actually exists and has the important qualities I had always dreamnt of. He supports me in my desicions and goals. He is somebody I can trust in.

He loves me and I love him.
He does all those stupid little details that most guys often over look.. but he does them so often that the big things don't matter.  He is perfect.

Playing waitress

I'm sure you have seen a movie with a scene like this and thought " thats sooo nice!! I wish some one would do that for me!!"

Well, with alittle help from my roommates I was able to have one of these experiences :)

He didn't surprise me.. I got him.

You see, it was his one year aniversary from coming home from the mission and I decided to do somehting about it. The day of the anniversary I played like it wasn't a big deal. We went out to a local cupcake shop and had a cupcake, talked a bit then left.

The next day I was so involved in his project ( and he knew it) that he was dying to just spend an hour with me. I told him I was frustrated with it and we went to a soccer game on campus. Meanwhile, I had my roommates at my apartment cleaning up and cooking and setting up. I Got a text saying " be ready in ten" and we came in ten... We walked in and dinner was set on the table.. it wasn't anything fancy ( we are only college students) and my roommate said " Hi. I'm Emily and I will be your server for tonight." he quickly looked at me and was completely shocked. It was quite exciting to put this on. It was incredibly romantic and sweet of my roommates to do. The food was delicious. It was served on our nice " adult" plates ( not plastic and actually came in a set) and garnished beautifully. She came in periodically and checked up on us. It was like going to a restaurant but at home and full of surprises.  I love it! My roommates are the best!!

Project addict

I have this little problem where I live my life one project at a time. This is a time where I am obsessed with a project that I eat breathe and sleep project.

This one was a medium sized project. It involved several people and lots of hours in front of a computer. It required lots of planing, drafting, and lots and lots of design skills.

During my freshman year college I was looking into theatre Arts and graphic design. I took computer design classes and theatre classes.. My computer class requied like two hours a day and lots of practice. I learned a whole lot from it including the basics of photoshop, and the basic principles of designing a lay out for a magazine and other graphic things.

I can honestly say that it took me about 40 hours to complete. It required many hours of picture editing and lay out crating as well as contacting and spelling and grammar revisions. It took a lot out of me but the best part was not the finished product. It was seeing the look on his face when he recieved it. He was all sorts of excited and grateful and emotional in every way. I think he liked it :P

Your Adventure begins at 6. Dress your nicest.

Every girl dreams of having her birthday be some crazy fun adventure suprise.. or maybe they just dream of other things.. I don't know..

I got a text saying " Your adventure begins at 6. Dress your nicest." I was a little preplexed and excited about this. I showed my roommate and she got very excited. she ran off into my closet and looked through everything. She found my Vera Wang collection and quickly dressed me. I wore my Vera Wang little black dress with my nicest strand of pearls and got my hair done. It was a surreal thing and when I finally looked in the mirror, I saw a grown up. It was then that I realized that I have done the majority of my learning and now I must put these things in to practice and grow up. It was then that I realized that I am at that amazing cross roads where young adult meets adult.. it was then that I realized that this summer would be my last opportunity to be reckless and not think about the future too much... just make memories and experience things that I probably wont ever experience since I have to be grown up and stuff.. ok.. that sounds really really bad.. but it smy last chance to have a crazy fun summer adventure is what I am trying to get at. I'm really excited for it.. but anyways.. I digress.. I was all sorts of dressed up.

How was my adventure you ask.... It was INCREDIBLE!! It was somehting I had dreamed of for some time. He is the best. :) I love him.

Walking on water.

Walking on water

Everybody knows the story of how Jesus walked on water.. and many people have tried to do the same. I think people often over look the state the water is in. This President's day I was able to walk on water. My amazing boyfriend took me out to Utah and one day we were just driving around and we ended up going to a lake... the Utah lake. we wanted to get close so we walked close and closer to the lake. the floor was covered in snow so we didn't know where the lake was.. and we were wondering where it was.. until we realized that we were walking on water!!

IT was WAY exciting.

The fact that we were walking on top of a frozen lake was not the most exciting part.. but we also watched the sun go down behind the mountains, and had quite the adventure getting to the lake. You see, to get down to the lake, there was a little drop off.. and as we went down this steep hill, i managed to get into a quick sand mud puddle. I was quickly sinking into this goey mess and ruining my shoes. HE managed to pull me out and we survived... ok.. it wasn't that bad.. but it was quite the adventure.

I went home for Thanksgiving with her and had quite the cultural experience.
1. She had 8 sibblings!!! she was one of the youngest and in her early 20's. What does that mean? there were over 20 people at her house including parents, sibblings, their wives and kids... my self and her fiance. Ok. moving on.

6. I met the parents of the Elder who is teaching my grandmother!!!

My life is awesome.

Noth Western USA Winter fun!

I happened to leave in the middle of the night and venture into Teton Valley Idaho  and end up in Driggs, Idaho. IT was just so incredible.

I happened to end up there with one of my roommates... just cus we could. When we left our apartment, it was about 2 degrees farenheight. When we were leaving, I kept having flashbacks of my last impromptou midnight eastern Idaho adventure when we ended up stranded on mile 32 for about 5 hours in Montana in temps around -10 when the car just died out the random and would not even turn on.  As I was having flash backs and remembering this little adventure... I saw that the windshield was icing over on the INSIDE!

Anyways, we made it to our destination and several firsts happened. I went to my first mission farewell on Sunday Jan 12, 2013. He went to Arkansas.

Sunday night I had a dinner made from scratch completely and everything was home grown!!! It was DELICIOUS AND AMZING!!! Followed by dessert wich consited of brownies and Ice cream made from scratch.

Monday morning we woke up to Breakfast made from scratch and home grown as well! It was one of the most delicious things I had ever experienced before. Also, as I ate this cracked wheat and bacon breakfast, I watched the sun rise over the Teton Mountains .

After this amazing trip, it was time to head back home. When we were heading back, the temps were down to -34!!! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!?!?!?!
